Bio:

Roas is something of an anomaly – an accipitus who does not speak at all. The nature of this peculiar condition can be traced back to her childhood, where she was even more talkative than most of her age and race. When her village was attacked in a bandit raid, she was the first to notice and she got the attention of the village elders, who ultimately evacuated most of the town. However, a bandit saw her and decided to throw alchemist’s fire in her face to shut her up. She very nearly died in the span of a few brief seconds, having most of her face burned off and suffering permanent damage to her hearing, but she was narrowly saved when one of the adults in the village got her out of harm’s way and smothered the fire.

After the incident, her parents sought help from the gods. Unfortunately, while the healers who acted as intermediaries could undo a large portion of the damage to Roas’s face, they could do nothing for her hearing. The trial of the bandit that had done this to her never led to true justice – while the child was allowed to speak to the bandit, her words (she never knew what she actually said) led the bandit to kill himself in prison.

That was the last time Roas ever spoke. Of the incident, Roas believes that she was given a voice for a brief moment by the gods to make the bandit realize how irredeemably evil his actions were. It is that divine intervention, in fact, that led Roas to her work in pursuing the gods’ will. Focusing her attention on the gods that govern life, she became a well-reputed healer, seemingly ‘hearing’ with her heart what ailed her patients. This reputation got her a stint as a field medic in the Ethess Mountains sulfur mine several years later, tending to the miners and making sure they worked at peak efficiency.

It is notable that in addition to never speaking, Roas surprisingly does not fear fire as much as she probably should. She believes the gods will protect her from another incident with fire.

Roas was left unscathed from the raid on the mine and even helped tend to the injured. She is without a job currently, but seeks to continue to help others.
