In a race full of repulsive creatures, Roderick manages to be ugly and rude enough to repulse his peers. Born to a family of impoverished miners, Roderick only knew suffering in his youth, being pretty much the runt of his entire generation. After a decade in which he never could get anything and never was loved by more than his parents, he had had enough. He had matured faster than anyone of his age should, never had a chance at being a child, and never could relate to any other children. His decision was made: he would toughen himself up and make himself useful to the clan. As such, he is by far the youngest of his clan to ever take up mining, despite the discouragement of the elders.
He mined and dug like he was possessed, barely stopping long enough to recover after full days spent creating tunnels in the earth. He survived a large number of dangers that would have felled the adults, having to learn to fight the terrors of the underground himself. He single-handedly doubled the clan’s territory by the time he was an adult… and his peers still wouldn’t take him seriously. That no longer mattered, however, because Roderick had gotten the attention of the Orozhakian miner’s guild with his near-legendary actions. They wanted him to put his work to use in the kingdom’s sulfur mine in the Ethess Mountains, which had apparently had trouble with keeping its operations going. Roderick gladly accepted, and has been there ever since.
Roderick still succumbs to rude behaviors every so often, but he isn’t concerned. Everything he has gotten in life he has had to rip out of the ground himself. Who cares what others think?
Roderick had temporarily been put out of work thanks to the incident at the mine. So when the party explained to Leticia that they were asked to go to the mine to deal with the rakshasa, Roderick muscled his way into the group. Mine knowledge proved somewhat helpful, but Roderick made his own contributions as a fighter and ultimately got the revenge he wanted against the rakshasa. Roderick is now happily back to work at the mines.
