Vaurirc (officially known as “Vaurirc Stareye” back then) was once a promising military cadet, with both the strength and charm to become a great leader. Unfortunately, one day while she was trekking through a mountain pass, an upsurge of water broke a bridge she was crossing and she fell into the flooded river. She would have drowned, but her cries for help drew the attention of a muskrat-like creature that dragged her onto shore and then got the attention of other recruits who resuscitated her. Though her life was saved, that was it for her in the military – she quit out of sheer grief and rejected the “Stareye” moniker, even though her superiors would have likely have let her stay. She quickly found that the muskrat-like creature, who introduced himself as Ondatra, followed her everywhere.
Eventually, this new friend of hers led her to a new calling – a man who identified himself as “Clawkiller” recognized the creature and offered to give Vaurirc a new chance defending his town. In time, she better learned about her connection with Ondatra and became able to summon other creatures as well.
Vaurirc, ultimately, does not care whether this Clawkiller man is a bandit or not – what she cares about is that she gave him a new purpose in life. So when he put together an expedition to the Ethess Mountains, she readily signed up.
It’s worth noting that thanks to the incident that brought her to meeting Ondatra, Vaurirc is deathly afraid of large bodies of water. Even the simple act of getting her to bathe requires physical restraints and sometimes a water breathing spell.
Vaurirc’s failure to help at the Ethess Mountains mine, along with her association with the raid on said mine, puts her squarely into the status of a wanted criminal. The order is to capture her alive… and the bounty would be fulfilled by a group of adventurers that ran into her while she was trying to protect her boss, Rantrabi. Both were captured in the ensuing conflict, and brought back to Ikonroel to stand trial. Vaurirc’s trial and sentence were much harsher than Rantrabi’s – she is currently in jail along with Ondatra.
